to Friends Of Jason Orpe!

This site is in honor of our good friend and colleague, Jason Orpe. Before Thanksgiving, Jason was diagnosed with Bulbar Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS, often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Today there is no cure.

There aren’t words to describe how deeply shocked and profoundly saddened we all were to learn this news. For anyone that’s ever known or worked with Jason, they’ve been touched by his quick wit, humor, and amazing talent. His approach to his diagnosis has been nothing short of inspirational. Jason has chosen to leave work and invest his remaining time with his wife & child, family, friends, and trying to live well. We’re going to miss seeing him every day at work, but this is by no means ‘goodbye’.

We’re coming together as a group to do what we can to look out for one of our own. Along with his disease comes countless expenses & stresses. Our goal is to leverage our collective time, talent, and financial resources to make a positive impact on Jason and his family. We know we can make a difference- we hope you will join us!!

We’re in the process of launching a multi-pronged effort:
  1. Direct Financial assistance:
         a. Recommended: Contribute to a special fund set-up for the Orpe family to help them cover medical expenses and insurance costs. There is a need here that we have the opportunity to fill.

         b. Donate Through PayPal

         b. Another option is to give to the ALS Association (Microsoft employees can leverage http://give matching funds) in Jason’s name

  2. Community: Join the group on Facebook to share your well wishes and let Jason know we’re with him

  3. Fundraising Events: More to come- stay tuned

  4. Helping Hands: Being a ‘resource-at-the-ready’ for Jason and his family- whether it be meals, errands, yardwork, babysitting, etc. More to come- stay tuned

Learning about Jason’s diagnosis can make us feel powerless. However, we can do something to take action and make a difference for Jason and Jason’s family’s life.
